Above the planet Pandora, on a space station, we meet a man named Roland, a mercenary soldier gone rogue. Roland kidnaps a teenager there named Tiny Tina, along with the help of someone named Krieg, a ‘Psycho’ who was institutionalized in the same facility as Roland.
On Promethea, Atlas CEO Deukalian Atlas hires the bounty hunter Lilith to return to his daughter, Tiny Tina, back to Pandora, which coincidentally is also Lilith’s homeworld, to which she has not visited since she was a child. Along with assistance from Claptrap, a programmed robot mysteriously designed to await her arrival on Pandora, Lilith manages to locate Tiny Tina along with her captors, Roland and Kreig.
Lilith comes to realize that Atlas wants his daughter back but Tiny Tina does not wish to return back, as it is against her will. Lilith, Tina, Roland, and Krieg are ambushed by a group called the Crimson Lance, the private army that serves Tiny Tina’s father, Deukalian Atlas, led by a man named Knoxx.
It is here that Lilith learns that Tina was created through genetic engineering using biological material from the Eridians, an ancient race that once called Pandora their home. Deukalian Atlas firmly believes that only Tina possesses the ability to access the mysterious Vault, where the secrets of the lost civilization's advanced technology lie hidden.
In a city called Sanctuary, a woman named Moxxi guides them to the xenoarchaeologist who initially suggested rescuing Tina. This archaeologist, known as Tannis, was entrusted with Lilith's care after her mother's passing. However, instead of providing nurturing, Tannis handed Lilith over to raiders, believing that this harsh environment would teach her how to survive.
The group ventures into an underground labyrinth inhabited by a tribe of ‘Psychos’, where they uncover the key to unlocking the Vault. They successfully retrieve the key and return to the surface. To signal Tina's rescue, Lilith destroys the device entrusted to her by Atlas.
However, unbeknownst to her, Atlas establishes contact through a robotic drone, reiterating his desire to possess the girl. Tina overhears the end of the conversation and mistakenly believes Lilith has betrayed her, causing her to throw a grenade, rendering Lilith unconscious. Regaining consciousness, Claptrap inadvertently plays a holographic message recorded by Lilith's mother.
The next day, minus both Lilith and Claptrap, the team manages to discover the Vault, only to find Duekalian Atlas anticipating their arrival. However, Tina encounters difficulty in opening the Vault. Lilith emerges and reveals her true identity as the Firehawk, anEridian capable of unlocking the Vault. Atlas threatens to harm Tina if Lilith does not comply. Reluctantly, Lilith opens the Vault, but cunningly entraps Atlas inside, where a mysterious creature abducts him.
The group rejoices in their triumph over Atlas, celebrating their survival. As fireworks erupt, Lilith soars into the sky above the city of Sanctuary, her magical flaming wings illuminating the night. With a sweep of her arms, she creates an impressive firehawk symbol that spreads across the sky, leaving a trail of radiant light as the screen fades to black.
